This is one of the best films I've seen in a long time. I saw the soundtrack in a record shop on one of my vinyl searching missions a while back, I didn't buy it at the time, but tomorrow I will.
And, in other news, I'm going back to Africa. Today, has been a good day. They've been a bit thin on the ground of late.

Fuse: It is GREAT! This is my first trip to Africa for a holiday and I can't wait.
SK: I just got the album today. It is filled with acoustic tortured love songs. Just my cup of tea! I am very excited about my trip. The Boy has family there and so it is a good excuse.
Ms Smack: I will be in South Africa and Namibia so things aren't too bad there compared to other parts of the continent. Actually, they are paradise compared to other parts of the continent!! Africa is an amazing, breathtaking, beautiful and very troubled place.
It will take a long time for Africa to ever reach peace, and there are no easy answers. I wish I could have a theory on how things could be improved. But there are a number of ethnicities and a number of tribal groups within each ethnicity and history seems to dictate that where there are differences there will be conflict.
Unfortunately, the imposition of Western style governance structures simply does not sit well outside of the West. It works to some extent, and there is no going back now, but I think it will be a long time before there is ever stability.
Two great things: the movie Once (I have the soundtrack too) which I liked a lot (and glad it didn't end in a pathetic way) and Africa. I have been to South Africa for work and then with a group of people still for work we drove to the border of Namibia. It was amazing. The nature and the surrounding there is absolutely amazing!
I am sure you will enjoy it and have a great time there!

I was unable to watch the clip last time but this time I did, and now I have to find out which obscure theatre is playing it.
His voice sounds a lot like 'Iron and Wine's' lead singer.
Suggest the song 'Naked as we Came' and 'Trapeze Singer' to start you off, if you can find them.
If not, let me know. I'll email the tracks to you.
Africa does sound delightful. I've always been tempted but scared and ignorant as to the ways over there. Thanks for the clarification.

True enough, la Femme, however as poorly as western governance sits, Africa has a recent history of faring even worse under self-rule. They can't have their self-determined cake, then stick their hand out for UN assistance when the democratically elected rulers steal their countries blind and turn the continent into a pool of tribal blood.
I am however loving the Somalian pirates at the moment, though I have no idea how they're going to bury a 1000' tanker...

Fingers: Yes, I agree with your comments. I followed the Lesotho corruption trials and have been watching the South African government corruption trials too. It is not very long after the collapse of apartheid or even really that long since colonization was rolled back, so it's going to take a long time for things to even out and settle down me thinks. Those Somalian pirates are something else aren't they??

oh i loved 'Once' too - i even sat through the extras bit, which i never do.
The Swell Season (the collaboration between Glen & Marketa, from the film) is playing in Sydney in January (Tour info) if you're not already back in Africa.

That was a good film! I loved the music and the singing and the town they filmed it in!
Thankfully it's a weekly release so once I'm done watching it tonight, my work colleagues are taking it for the weekend.
